A Blessing for Moving In
Post Author: Rev. Merianna Harrelson
The season called Ordinary Time in the church calendar often allows a brief reprieve for ministers and families of ministers. Often this time where school is out for the summer and regular programming shifts to summer programming invites change. Whether you are experiencing a change in moving houses or calls or bearing witness as someone else makes these changes, here is a blessing for moving in:
O God who can move mountains,
Grant us strength to move this mountain of boxes –
Boxes that hold our possessions
Boxes that hold our memories
Boxes that hold our fears
Of moving into a new place.
O God who created heaven and earth,
Create with us
Imaginative messes
Delicious recipes
Lifelong memories
Of love and belonging.
O God who invites to be still and know,
Help us create sanctuary here
From the busyness of work
From the demands of school
From the unexpected griefs
So we can rest and recover together.
May this new home (or new office or new call)
Become with you and because of you
A safe haven
A quiet respite
A beautiful reminder
That we are beloved
And that we are called
Here to this new space.
